The Smrek Observation Tower is a unique viewpoint located atop Smrek Mountain (1124 m a.s.l.) in the Izery Mountains, right on the Polish-Czech border. It is one of the most popular spots in the region, renowned for its breathtaking panoramic views, which attract nature lovers, hikers, and photographers. From the tower, you can enjoy sweeping views of the Izery and Karkonosze Mountains, as well as the surrounding valleys in both Poland and the Czech Republic – on clear days, you can even see Śnieżka, the highest peak in the Karkonosze Mountains.
How to Reach Smrek?
You can reach Smrek from both the Polish and Czech sides. The most popular route on the Polish side begins in Świeradów-Zdrój, where you can take the green trail toward Stóg Izerski and then follow the border trail to Smrek. This hike takes approximately 2-3 hours and offers scenic paths through beautiful forests and meadows. Alternatively, you can start from the Czech side at Nové Město pod Smrkem, which provides a slightly easier ascent, especially suitable for beginner hikers.
