The Podgórze Mine in Kowary is the largest uranium mine in the region and the second largest in Poland. Its workings were created in the 1950s, and exploitation lasted until 1958. From 1974 to 1989, the mine hosted the only Radon Inhalation Chamber in Poland. Currently, the mine offers tourists an underground route of approximately 1600 meters, where they can learn about the history of uranium mining and the secret activities of the R-1 Industrial Plant.
